IRVINE, Calif. β The box of crackers Debra Rogoff bought from the grocery store had some crackerjack in it β an envelope stuffed with $10,000.
Yet the Irvine woman was more curious than ecstatic about her daughter's find. After all, who would leave money in such a place?
"We just thought, 'This is someone's money,'" she said. "We would never feel good about spending it."
Rather than go on a shopping spree, the family called police and was initially told the money could be part of a drug drop.
Police
later heard from store managers at Whole Foods in Tustin that an
elderly woman had come in a few days earlier, hysterical because she
had mistakenly returned a box of crackers with her life savings inside.
In a mix-up the store restocked the box rather than composting it.
The
Lake Forest woman, whose identity was not released, had lost faith in
her bank and decided the box would be a safer place for the money.
Luckily for her, the box of Annie's Sour Cream and Onion
Cheddar Bunny crackers were bought by the Rogoffs, who discovered the
crisp $100 bills in an unmarked white envelope on Oct. 10.
The Rogoffs never heard from the woman and didn't receive a reward, but Rogoff did return to Whole Foods a couple weeks later.
"I asked them if I could have another box of crackers," she said with a laugh. The store obliged.
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Sometime in the middle of the night, Carol
Tufts began to feel very strange. Dizzy, confused, disoriented.
By midmorning, she had collapsed into a chair, unable to walk,
unaware of what day it was. She was, in fact, dying.
The reason? She drank too much water.
Too much water? In the Southern Arizona desert? Where the
never-ending mantra drummed into our heads tells us to drink water
constantly to ward off the perils of our extreme, dry heat?
Well, Tufts -- always vigilant about her health -- followed that
advice for years, drinking lots of water daily, to stay hydrated and
healthy. And it almost killed her.
Convicted last year of intoxication manslaughter for the death of her
boyfriend, the 21-year-old daughter of a state district judge is suing
the truck driver she ran into during a drunken driving crash.
Elizabeth Shelton, the daughter of juvenile judge Pat Shelton, is
accusing truck driver Lance Bennett of negligence in the Oct. 23, 2007,
wreck that killed her boyfriend Matthew McNiece.
Shelton had a blood alcohol concentration more than three times the
legal limit, two tests showed. She was sentenced to eight years'
probation and had to serve four months in jail.
Shelton, her family and the family of the boyfriend who was killed are
suing for $20,000 for the destruction of the Lexus SUV she was driving
and an undetermined amount for mental anguish, pain and suffering.
Bennett was driving the box truck that Shelton rear-ended on the Southwest Freeway near Kirby around 2 a.m.
Bennett's attorney, John Havins, said the lawsuit, filed in October,
was the last chance to make a claim before the statute of limitations
ran out.
He noted that Shelton named 16 defendants, including insurance
companies and banks. "They're just throwing everything against the wall
to see if anything sticks," Havins said.
During Shelton's trial, an expert for the defense testified there was
evidence that Bennett swerved into Shelton's lane. An expert for the
prosecution, however, said there wasn't evidence that Bennett got in
her way.
Testimony also showed that the company Bennett was working for let the insurance on the truck lapse.
"The injuries and property damage sustained by (Shelton and her family)
were not the result of intentional acts, but were accidental and caused
by the negligence of the uninsured/underinsured driver," Shelton's
attorney Mark Sandoval wrote in the lawsuit.
PORT ST. LUCIE, FLORIDA β Police are seeking an arrest warrant for a
man accused of hitting his wife after she asked to smell his penis to
determine whether he was cheating with another woman, according to a
police report released Wednesday.
The 37-year-old victim told investigators
her husband of three years punched her face and kicked her arms and
legs Monday night after she accused him of having an affair.
The victim said she told her 25-year-old husband as he used the restroom "to display his penis to her so that she can smell it," the report states.
She said she asked him to show his genital area so she could determine whether he was cheating with another woman.
As she went to sniff her husband's penis, he reportedly punched her mouth and started to kick her when she was on the floor. The husband then fled the scene.
Police saw bruises and red marks on the victim's mouth, legs and arms.
She became uncooperative when told a warrant would be filed for her husband's arrest.
"I have seen some great posts on this browser and had some great discussions about it on Twitter (#blackbird).
There are a bunch of different viewpoints and opinions that surround
this #blck browser. Hate it or love it, it's here. What I aim to do in
this post is simply lay out just a few of the things I've heard about
it so far."
From BallerStatus.com -- Former TLC singer, T-Boz, is another victim of
the sad state of the housing market. She too has is reportedly losing
her home.
According to TMZ, the 10,000-sq. ft. Georgia home of T-Boz (real name:
Tionne Watkins) is set to go on the auction block in January 2009,
after failing to make her mortgage payments.
Public records indicate that the singer has defaulted on the original
principal of her mortgage, which is reportedly around $530,000, and now
the state has taken it.
T-Boz is not the first of a long list of celebrities who can't make their house payments.
Following news of Ed McMahon who got bailed out by Donald Trump when he
was in a crunch, also the likes of hip-hop mogul Damon Dash, and most
recently "American Idol" winner Fantasia, are among celebs who lost
their homes to foreclosure.
Heres some interesting info on Bone, Tomica, Eazy and Mo Thugs (some of the fans on the board my not know)...
================================================== =======
- Shortly before Eazy's passing, he met up with Ice Cube out in NY. Ice
Cube filled him in on how to better manage his finances and how Jerry
Heller was taking advantage of him. This resulted in Eazy firing Jerry
Heller
- The doctor Eazy E saw in regards to his bronchitis was an associate
of Jerry Heller. After his visit, Eazy was diagnosed with full blown
AIDS (keep in mind this occurred AFTER Eazy fired Jerry).
- Jerry had Tomica marry Eazy E on his deathbed
- Tomica had NO social life after Eazy passed cause everyone
(especially in the industry) assumed she was sick. Eventually she
started messing with some of the Bone members.
- Layzie and Tomica were fucking for a short while. When that stopped she moved on to Bizzy
- When Bizzy stopped messing with her, thats when all hell broke loose.
She started doing them real dirty. Bizzy dissed her in a few songs
(Thugs Cry, Murder Me, Waiting 4 Warfare, I Understand...). This was
also one of the many reasons why Bizzy was MIA for videos, studio
sessions, business meetings, etc.
- Tomica had Layzie thrown out the 2nd story window of the Ruthless
office by one of the twins (those two big ass bodyguards, you can see
them on the BNK video). Check 50 seconds into the BNK video.
- Relativity played a much bigger role than distribution with the
original Mo Thugs acts. Most of the original Mo Thug members were
signed to Relativity Records as artist. Ruthless also had some
involvement in these releases as it featured Bone thugs (they really
made some dumb ass business decisions back then, and had too many hands
in their pockets).
- Once Relativity went under, all the upcoming Mo Thug projects from
the original members were never released or leaked (with exception to
the GYS album, because it was leaked by Romeo Antonio who produced the
majority of it). This is because all the material was owned by
Relativity who financed the Mo Thug label.
- Bone could not do any business or release any material without the
consent of Tomica / Ruthless (and for that to happen, Ruthless would
most likely get a cut out of whatever they did)
- Neighborhood Slang (acapella by Krayzie Bone on the Art of War album
1997) was actually written by Krayzie back way before they even met
Eazy (shows how ahead of his time dude was)
- Layzie Bone was shot in the head in a drive by shooting
- Krayzie Bone shot Wish Bone in the leg while loading a shotgun. This resulted in him going to prison for 18 months.
- Bizzy Bone wanted to be a singer before he got into a rap (I wouldnt be surprised if dude wanted to be like El Debarge).
- Bizzy Bone was listed as a missing child on the ending credits of the
TV Movie "Adam" (at the time he was led to believe his mother was dead,
and was kidnapped by the father of one of his sisters, he was also
molested during this time).
- Mo Thugs producer Archie Blaine (Archie Arch) was almost beat to
death by some of the Bone members for trying to setup a production deal
with Relativity Records behind their back
- Krayzie Bone hired people to beat up Souljah Boy (original Mo Thug member) when they had a falling out.
- Flesh Bone was mentally and emotionally unstable and would often beat
up some of the Bone members if they angered him, or if he felt was left
out in certain business dealings (one of the motivations for Layzie to
shop him a deal at Def Jam). It got to a point where Ruthless had to
hire security to control Flesh.
- Bizzy and Layzie were both underage when they signed to Ruthless in December of 93 (Bizzy was 16, Layzie was still 17).
- Bizzy had his first child when he was 12 years old
